PenPals with a Purpose
Pen Pals with a Purpose connects 5th and 6th graders from the US and the Global North with students at Kalwa Slum School in Mumbai, India — a GPM partner school — through structured email correspondence. Students are matched one-on-one and exchange emails throughout the school year, building real friendships across cultures.
The children of Kalwa grow up absorbing a message every day: they are not worthy of the world’s attention. They are dismissed as “slum kids.” This program sends the opposite message — loudly and repeatedly: you are seen, you are valued, and someone on the other side of the world chose to know you.
